Sardaar Ji by JASHN-e-QALAM

JASHN-e-QALAM’s Sardar Ji, a storytelling presentation happening at the NGMA, Delhi on 28 April. Presented by The Gujral Foundation, Sardaar Ji is based on a seminal short story by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas and will be performed by Vicky Ahuja. The 60-minute solo performance revisits the emotional and political turbulence of India’s Partition in 1947, unfolding as a poignant exploration of prejudice, fear, and humanity.
Set in a time when neighbour turned against neighbour, the narrative follows a tense encounter between a lone Muslim man and his Sikh adversary, as they find themselves bound together in a moment of uncertainty—awaiting what history would define as their tryst with destiny. Through its intimate storytelling format, the performance reflects on themes of harmony, brotherhood, and peace, while serving as a timely reminder of the dangers of ‘otherisation’, ‘rumour-mongering’, and ‘communalism’.
