Shared Stories: From Mediterranean to East Asia – An Exhibition

Shared Stories is a special exhibition presented by the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre in collaboration with leading museums and cultural institutions from Rome, India, and beyond. It brings together artworks, textiles, sculptures, and decorative objects to show how trade, travel, and encounters once connected the Mediterranean with East Asia.

Through pieces from the Indian Subcontinent, Central Asia, China, Iran, and the Mediterranean, the exhibition traces shared visual symbols, travelling motifs, and intertwined religious and philosophical ideas from before the Common Era up to the nineteenth century. It invites visitors to see how the movement of people and objects created common artistic languages and a world shaped by dialogue, exchange, and shared imagination rather than isolation.
