Shriram Shankarlal Music Festival or Shriram Shankarlal Sangeet Sammelan is one of the earliest Indian Classical musical events held in Delhi for the past six decades. It could be one of the first classical vocal and instrumental music events organized after attaining independence. The Sammelan which began as a small concert with an informal gathering of musicians at Smt.Sumitra Charat Ram’s house at Delhi’s Curzon Road, during the Country’s independence eve on 15th August 1947, has now become a forum for the talented youth alongside the most authentic traditional musicians. Sumitra Charat Ram is also the founder and patron of Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra set up in 1952, a premier cultural institute in Delhi.
The festival was organized by Sir Shankarlal Foundation, set up in memory of Sir Shankarlal, the brother of Sir Shri Ram, Father in Law of Smt. Sumitra Charat Ram till 1993 as Shankarlal Music Festival. After that, Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra itself took up the festival and named it Shriram Shankarlal Music Festival.
The three-day festival is held at Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra Lawns, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi every year from March- April. This year 10-12 March 2023. people get packed with music enthusiasts who have high expectations, from around the country during the event.
