Sut te Saah: Stories Woven – Exhibition

ਸੂਤ ਤੇ ਸਾਹ (Sut te Saah): Stories Woven in Phulkari is a landmark textile exhibition that brings together over 40 rare pre‑Partition Phulkaris and Baghs from Punjab. Presented by Bhavna Kakar and curated by Shreya Sharma, the show draws from the collections of Amit Hansraj and Brig. Surinder & Shyama Kakar, marking one of the first major presentations of these historic textiles in a private gallery in India.
The exhibition traces the arc of human experience – birth, love, community, ritual, and remembrance – through the many forms of Phulkari and Bagh. Structured across three interconnected sections, it moves from Sankraman (Transition), which reflects moments of passage such as birth and marriage, to Vishvaas ate Katha (Belief and Narrative), where faith, folklore, and oral histories are stitched into cloth, and finally to Rihaish (Dwelling and Everyday Life), centring the domestic spaces where Phulkari shaped women’s everyday worlds across generations.
Featuring works from the Majha, Doaba, and Malwa regions, Sut te Saah brings together Chope, Vari‑da‑Bagh, Sainchi, Baghs, and Thirma Phulkari. The exhibition positions these textiles as living archives – records of women’s lives, labour, belief, and memory – carried forward through thread.
