Tensile Dimensions a solo exhibition by Mumbai-based artist Aaditi Joshi, featuring her latest body of work crafted from recycled plastics. This marks Joshi’s first solo exhibition in New Delhi, showcasing her unique approach to materiality and environmental concerns.
Exploring Recycled Plastics Through Art
Aaditi Joshi has been working with recycled plastics for several years, highlighting the complex duality of plastics—while they are a leading cause of environmental degradation, they have also facilitated modern convenience. In “Tensile Dimensions,” Joshi transforms polypropylene bags, commonly found at construction sites, into stunning artistic compositions. These woven white bags, used to transport materials like sand and concrete, serve as the base for her exploration of colors, textures, and forms.
By dismantling, cleaning, and manipulating these bags, Joshi creates works that merge painting, sculpture, collage, and textile art. Her application of paint and texture evokes the surface of alien landscapes, with fluid, undulating forms that challenge categorization. Through her art, Joshi invites viewers to engage with the contradictions of modern life and the environmental impact of industrial materials.
