What the Light Remembers: Solo Art Exhibition

Gallerie Nvya presents What the Light Remembers, a solo exhibition of recent works by artist Riddhi Shah. The exhibition brings together works exploring the relationship between memory, inherited structures and the natural world.

Working across gouache, watercolour, gold pigment and walnut stain on Sanganeri and acid-free paper, Shah brings the geometric precision of the jaali into dialogue with the generative structures of nature. Her works consider memory as something fugitive, selective and continually reconstructed. In works such as Champa Outside My Window, Nilgiri and Krishna Kamal, paper-cut jaali patterns meet botanical imagery, with sections of the paper cut away to allow negative space, light and shadow to become active elements in the compositions.

Drawing on the traditions of Sanganeri wasli, Mughal miniature painting and botanical ornament, the exhibition explores the relationship between pattern and freedom. Shah considers how inherited structures, natural systems and histories shape human experience, while also asking where possibilities for freedom can emerge within them. The exhibition will be on view at Gallerie Nvya’s Saket space from 12 September to 31 October 2026, following a preview on 11 September.
