How Are We Growing Our Blog And Social Media During Corona Lock Down Period

Apr 15, 2020 | Technology

The physical world has shut but thankfully online businesses during corona lockdown are somewhat active. Working during corona lock-down is relatively easy for us since one does not need to step out. Here is our guide to the blogger and influencer life during corona lock-down and how to make the most of your time during the quarantine.

How we as bloggers are making the most of corona lock-down period?

Legend has it that Isaac Newton discovered gravity during a lock-down of months because of plague. The universities were closed and Newton would sit below an apple tree. Rest is history. Becoming Newton is a far cry but creating something new is very much possible and we strive to do that. Besides, working on our website and social media gives us hope for a better tomorrow and keeps us sane in these tumultuous times.

Bearing this in mind we explored how we could make the most of our time during the quarantine. Truth be told, since we are more of internet-based business, we are fortunately experiencing a steady flow of work and that is keeping us busy.  In fact, given the quiet period, we have to walk the extra mile in creating engaging content for our audience who are spending a lot more time in cyberspace. Concurrently, we are taking positive steps to expand the blog and social media channels in coronavirus phase.

Delhifundos is a joint venture of two of us.  Both of us are forever preoccupied in travel, theatre, other events and creating posts about them. Consequently, we find very little time for housekeeping that is so necessary to maintain as well as advance our website. In fact, in India, it is going to be summer vacation time after Corona lockdown gets over and we are expecting a huge demand for travel content mainly travel guides for Indian destinations and travel vlogs. Keeping in mind that travel is one of the key areas we write about we are focusing on creating new content and recycling old content based on summer vacations.

Our action plan during corona lockdown

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade they say. We are using the lockdown time for tackling pending housekeeping so that we emerge from this hiatus with a faster platform with a fresh look. To this end, we have divided the chores between the two of us. Once we emerge from the corona shutdown, we hope to have a rejuvenated platform, like a new home, in internet space.

Here are some of the steps we are taking to grow our blogging business during quarantine:

Overhauling the website

Our blog Delhifundos, we are happy to announce, is turning 8 this year. 8 years is a long time to build the platform. We created the design, the branding painstakingly and over the years went on adding more elements, sections, plug-ins as our business demanded.  However, during the course of one of our projects a year ago, an expert had a look at our blog and suggested changes.

web design work during corona

Change is the only constant they say and we got enrolled on the idea of having a new design. What got in the way of exploring this idea was time. We are constantly on the move and despite our best efforts; it became difficult to get a window period when we could focus on making this change.

This forced break has given us that scope. We are diligently at home and Sundeep, the designer between us, has taken upon himself to redesign our website.  He is exploring various platforms that suit our commercial interests while not compromising on our aesthetic as well as content requirement.

The new website should be fun easier to handle and with stronger SEO. The stay home protocol is serving Sundeep very well and he has no track of time!  He is focused that by the time the world starts moving, Delhifundos is ready to move in a rejuvenated, faster avatar.

Clearing pending blogs

We have a lot of pending blogs to write and we are not proud of this. Delhifundos is a reflection of our lives as two men about town. We have tried to cover as many areas of life that motivate us, be it travel, food, culture and so on. It has always been our earnest endeavour to disseminate information and provide our views about whatever we cover, as promptly as we can on our website.

Yet, at times we falter. Back to back travel, other professional and some personal commitments sometimes come in the way and we tend to have a backlog. So, while Sundeep is busy with revamping the website, Bedabrata is using this home time to clear pending blog posts.  He has already written some articles and intends to write more and more in this phase.

While our website Delhi-fun-dos.com and associated Instagram and Facebook pages are our most profitable channels, we have been itching to test other popular social media channels as well. Below are some steps that we are taking to propagate our work elsewhere.

Making the most of YouTube during corona lock-down

Projects involving vlogs have increased exponentially in the last year. Moreover, during the course of our travels, we shoot a lot of footage using multiple devices with the intent of making cogent vlogs. But since video editing is insanely time consuming, we often find ourselves pressed for time. We are, therefore, using this break to work on pending vlogs. While we have good subscribers on our blog and Instagram, we are still fledgelings on YouTube. This lock-down period gives us a good opportunity to tell our stories through videos and connect with a whole new audience base that is hooked on to this amazing video platform.

Writing guest posts

It’s not just us who are more than active on working on our digital platforms. A whole lot of digital marketers are working from home and looking for websites that might work for their clients. We are being approached by internet marketeers and public relation companies for writing guests posts or to publish their guest posts on our website to promote their client’s products and services. We are spending our time to read or write such posts, edit these to suit our audience and publishing these as required. In this time of financial crises, the revenue generated through such work is most welcome.

Tik Tok for travel bloggers

We are spending much more time than we would like, on the app TikTok these days. We had resisted this app mostly because we were not sure how would Tik Tok work for food and travel bloggers. But we recently realised this short video app has various tools that can be used to tell our fun stories about food and travel. We are taking baby steps to make our presence felt on this platform as well.

Reusing and recycling our pictures and videos

We heard a lot of people are digging up old family albums and going through vintage photos. We are doing this digitally. While scouring old photos from our phones, DSLR and online archives, we found a ton of material that can be recycled and reused. Many of these pictures are from the time when we were not even bloggers. It is like finding a hidden treasure. We can go on for months with these food and travel photos on our social media.

Blog and connected Social media is among the little recourse available for expanding business, during Corona lockdown. We are therefore making the most of this unique situation. When we emerge from the lockdown, we should be having a more complete and user-friendly website. Alongside, we hope to have some presence on various other internet platforms and convert these to revenue earning channels as well.

At Delhi-Fun-Dos we regularly create piles of data on our various platforms. With ever expanding content, data protection is a matter of serious concern that we had been facing for a while. We came across Stellar Information Technology Pvt. Ltd. They have been in the field of data care for more than 25 years. We were recently enlightened by them in connection with a suitable data handling system that would work for us.
