We love buffet meals not because we like to eat a lot, but because there is always something for everyone in the party. The NCR food scene does not disappoint and we have already tried buffets as Spectra, Radisson and Hilton Gurgaon.

New Indian Buffet Place in Gurgaon

Another place in Gurgaon for buffet that we couldn’t resist is India On My Plate and we tried this place for a Weekend brunch. A part of the Fortune Hotel on Sohna Road, this place has been recently renovated and has a menu with dishes from various parts of India. We got a nice table adjacent to a glass wall and the view was amazing from there.

Let’s get it started

We started with green apple mocktail and some beer served along with an ulta tawa paratha. The mocktail was unbearably sweet but we loved the paratha. Almost crispy like a papad this was awesome as an accompaniment with the beer.

Some of the starters we tried were mutton and chicken kebabs cooked as per regional recipes. For whatever reason they tasted just like usual starters we get in Delhi. The mutton kebab was hard and cold. From vegetarian starters we had pudina paneer tikka, dahi kebab and rajma galouti. We liked some of these starters but they tasted much better when we had them with the raddish and yogurt dip. The dip was so delicious we kept having it with almost everything.

Main course and desserts

From main course we remember having chicken chettinad, mutton biryani, dahi alu achari, dal-e-fortune and kasturi paneer. Mutton biryani was good but rest of the dishes were at best, mediocre. We had Bengali kancha gulla, paneer jalebi and rasmalai for desserts. Kancha Gulla was moderate on sweetness and looked fresh and beautiful with rose petals. We had a second helping of this dessert.

They do need to polish up the service a bit. They started well, but soon dropped pace so much so that we had to wait 15 – 20 minutes for each dish in main course and dessert.

Food for the soul

Along with Indian food, they had live singers and musicians who crooned Hindi film songs, some on request and some from their own playlist.
