Kalam Memorial – must do these summer holidays

Jun 12, 2017 | Museums, Things to do in Delhi

There are some beacons that always burn bright – in all seasons. Our beloved former president Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is one such personality who has changed the face of presidency in India. Dr. Kalam was fondly called the “People’s President” and his sudden expiry in the year 2015 has left an irreplaceable void among Indians.

As a mark of respect to the great scientist – educationist – president, Delhi Tourism has established a museum – Kalam Memorial in the rear section of Dilli Haat, I.N.A. The museum is a treasure trove of information on this legend. It carries books, notes, clothes, musical instruments, gifts and other personal items of the former president. Sparkling clean and extremely well-lit, the museum resonates Dr. Kalam’s upright and simple personality. His motivating sayings are printed all over the area so as to inspire all visitors. The audio visuals, great air conditioning and the souvenir shop complete the experience.

While the museum is a must do for everybody, its simplistic appeal has a way with children. In fact, one is greeted with a statue of Dr. Kalam and children at the entrance to the memorial. Kalam Memorial is a must do this season.

Kalam Memorial is open everyday, except Monday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and entry here is free.
