OMO – Vegetarian Cafe in Gurgaon

Dec 29, 2022 | Food

There are a lot of options when it comes to simple vegetarian cafes in Delhi or Gurgaon. But it is very rare for fancy cafes in Delhi NCR to be vegetarian. OMO Vegetarian Cafe in Gurgaon is kind of unique in the fact that it’s not just your regular Indian vegetarian food but upscale vegetarian dining with a host of vegan-friendly options for the new-age Indian diner. And yes, it’s also Insta worthy, not by being gimmicky, but by being understated, earthy, and still posh. OMO Cafe calls itself a soul food community and we recently figured out why!!

North-East Special at a Vegetarian Cafe in Gurgaon

Are you as shocked as we were when we heard that a vegetarian restaurant in Delhi NCR was serving North East food? Recently OMO Cafe organised a North East special menu and on one pleasant Sunday, we went to OMO for lunch to try it out. The cafe has tables in the covered area and some are alfresco. It was a pleasant day, and we got a seat under the sun.

We started with Wild Naga Salad. They served the salad as three fresh bowls of three items instead of mixing these together like you’d expect from a salad bowl. This was a banana flower salad with fox nuts. The fox nuts here were not popped yet.  These were like solid seeds that were hard on the outside but once you bite had a softer core. It took some time to get used to, but we loved it after a few bites. The greens were fresh and crunchy. We loved the slightly bitter hint in the salad as well.

Another Northeast item that we really loved was fried rice made of black rice served with bamboo and kimchi. They topped the rice with herbs that added freshness to the dish. The flavours were unique and we have never had anything like this before.

On the chef’s recommendation, we also tried black sesame and hempseed jackfruit roulade. They served the roulade with spaghetti made with black sesame paste. Absolutely quirky in looks as well as taste. Kids weren’t too kicked about black spaghetti, but we loved every single bite of that.

OMO Cafe Regular Menu

Enough of this offbeat food. The kids now demanded a thin-crust pizza. And we were so happy we ordered one. This was lip-smacking delicious. This pizza was 10 on 10.

We took a cocoa almond smoothie and cold-pressed juice (immunity-boosting orange grapefruit, apricot, lemon ginger) to gulp it all down with. The juice was yummy and complimented the salad and Northeast dishes. The smoothie was a little too thick for our taste. Oats in almond milk made it very heavy. This was a meal in itself.

The staff is extremely courteous and is trained well. They not just serve well but explain the dishes if you need more details. We were forewarned about the sweet potatoes in the naga chilli dish. This was really mouth-burning hot and not for the fainthearted. We jumped straight to the desserts after this.

Desserts at OMO Cafe

For desserts, the apple strudel and the true cheesecake were absolutely yummy. We wish they presented the cheesecake better. The strudel tasted yummy with vanilla ice cream.

The food at OMO cafe was absolutely soul-satisfying. We did not miss not having non-vegetarian items, not even once. In fact, OMO cafe turned out to be the most memorable food we had in 2022. We would highly recommend this cafe to all especially folks who are looking for fancy vegetarian and vegan-friendly food in Delhi NCR.

Everything here looks so good, especially the black sesame and hempseed jackfruit roulade. being a vegetarian, eating the same food is so boring, and such cafes are such a breather.
