Bihari cuisine is still restricted to the amazing litti-chokha that we have at IITF or cart at Connaught Place. Potbelly is perhaps the only chain up north that holds the bastion for this cuisine. We have loved the food at Potbelly Chanakyapuri and Shahpur Jat branches. They have a new outlet in Gurgaon at 32nd Avenue off the highway. 32nd Avenue has replaced 32nd Milestone. We were impressed with the place when we visited the new Potbelly here. Swank and cool and has a fine life feel!
The Potbelly Divine outlet is done in soothing colours with liberal dose of Madhubani art. The painted lamp shades look straight out of a designer lifestyle store. The space isn’t very big and that lends a certain cosiness to this cafe. A perfect setting for a dinner date we say.
The menu is fun and we tried some old and some new stuff. Like all time favourite Bagiya Basket. These are rice dumplings served with relishes made of brinjal, tomatoes etc. From the new fare, we loved the Fish Biriyani. They had very dexterously combined the taste of fish with Biriyani seasoning. What added to the dining experience is the beautiful handmade studio pottery they used for serving the food. It gave an arty – earthy feel to the fare. For desserts, don’t miss their Raspua. It is very similar to Malpua – more flat and crisp. Apparently this is how Malpua is made in Eastern India.
They also served a Sattoo (chickpea flour) cooler which was as tasty and wholesome.
We loved the dining experience. It was grounded and fuss-free. A word of caution though. The food here is HOT – loaded with chillis in all forms and is definitely not one for the faint-hearted. For rest of North Indians, The Potbelly Divine in Gurgaon is just what the palate wants.
