Momo joints have spread in Delhi like jungle fire. Probably the most famous Tibetan food, momos have found takers everywhere in Delhi, from road side stalls to fine-dining to specialty restaurants. Momos are here to stay.

Like all other cuisines, be it Chinese or American, Delhiwallas do tamper the food according to their taste buds. Even if they like it in its original form, they  experiment. So is the case with momos. After steamed, fried, cabbage, paneer, chicken varieties,  we are seeing soy momos and momos chaat at various places in Delhi.

Another popular version is Tandoori momos and QD’s at Satyaniketan is known for it. Though they have quite an extensive menu, their tandoori momos are very popular mostly with south campus students.

We dined at QD’s just to try their tandoori momos. The restaurant is located right at the entry point of South Campus and was almost full at around 8 pm but we managed to get a table. We had a plate each of vegetable and chicken momos respectively. The vegetable and the chicken momos looked identical but are absolutely different from how we visualise momos. These were orange in colour, like tandoori tikkas, with a hole at one end. They looked interesting and tasted fine. We liked chicken momos much better than the vegetable ones. The size of these momos is almost double of a regular one. Six pieces on each plate made it quite a meal for both of us.

Thumbs up:

  • Courteous staff
  • Quick service
  • Good ingredients. One can make it by “after feeling” that their stuff is good quality. These are not your routine roadside momos.
  • Value for money

Thumbs down:

  • Momos were not hot. When we hear “Tandoori” we assume piping hot. These were cold and clearly precooked.
  • A little too spicy for us
  • Cleanliness needs improvement. We kept removing houseflies from our table.
  • Momos need more variety. How about having paneer and soy options for vegetarians?
  • The red chilli chutney along with momos was a little too hot. Maybe they can consider having a milder version for diners who prefer more subtle tastes.
