Kangana Ranaut as “Raani” (Queen) ruled our hearts and gave a performance that we’ll remember for a very… very long time. Though another release of this week handled woman liberation by fighting men with “laaathis” (Gulabi Gang), in this film a woman gets liberated by going to her honeymoon alone after her fiance left her high and dry at the altar.
Being dumped by the person you love the most… ouch… it hurts. But what hurts more is the loss of self respect. Directer Vikas Bahl stunned us by creating a laugh riot out of a sensitive post break up film. We are amazed by this gem of a film minus any Bollywood cliches and big star cast.
Apart from the storyline and direction, Queen has great music to offer. “London Thumakda” is going to be a hot favorite in all north Indian weddings this summer. Picturisation of this song is awesome with great camera work and fantastic slow motion in parts. O gujariya, Hungama, Badra bahar – every song is so melodious. And what works best is, the film doesn’t stop for any song. The music is woven beautifully with all the scenes.
Apart from the music, Kangna Ranaut in her deglam avatar, excellent costars (Rani’s family, friends in Paris and Lisa Hayden), duration of the film and above all fantastic dialogs made it a perfect entertainer.
Many thanks for a very modest climax sans any “gyan” or long dialogues in the end.
P.S. Don’t just walk out as soon as the film gets over. Wait to see Rani’s Facebook timeline with the end credits. It’s uber cute 🙂
Great write-up. Totally agree with your views. This film is a piece of art. Subtle and unpretentious (and not resembling a travel promotion video for Delhi / Paris / Amsterdam) it holds the audiences’ attention for the full 2 hour plus duration. I went up and down on a psychological roller coaster ride with the “Queen” – thoroughly enjoyed it – and am happy to be back.
