Venue: Central Park, CP
A Tuesday evening at Connaught Place does not hold a lot of surprises. Our routine would be having dinner at a vegetarian joint and updating our blog. We stand corrected. While strolling, we just chanced upon a familiar voice from Central Park. The voice pulled us into the park. Voila there was Shubha Mudgal singing most uncommon renditions. From Kabir to Dushyant Kumar to Amir Khusro, she delivered one great song after the other. We like her on MTV. That said, sans all electronic music instruments, only ably supported by the tabla, harmonium and her own Tanpura, we were mesmerized by the sheer power and simplicity of her voice. Perhaps she started a trifle late in the popular music scene but it is evident that she sagaciously utilized her initial years in riyaaz. A case in point for the simple adage – there is no shortcut to success.
Subhas Mudgal was absolutely unaffected by the weather. It was quite hot and humid. Needless to say we also completely forgot about it.
Incidently this programme was a part of Raag Rang festival organised by ministry of Art & Culture during 6-12 May 2013.
