Ramen Festival at The Grand in New Delhi

Dec 3, 2018 | Eating out, Food

Date: 14-16 Nov 2018
Venue: The Grand, Vasant Kunj

It’s party season and we are out almost every other night. Partying of course and having oily canapés and heavy dinners. In this phase of health-harakiri, the Ramen Festival at The Grand, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi was like manna from heaven.

While the Japanese Ramen has established presence all over the Asia, it is a relatively new entrant in India and occasionally features in menus of oriental restaurants. The Wok Tok is the Grand’s Asian restaurant and the Ramen Festival was happening here. They had a variety of ramen bowls that are like complete meals. Each ramen comprised vegetables, noodles and meat / fish / tofu chunks in a broth. True to Asian style, the broth had been slow cooked for hours and was served separately in a spouted pot. The toppings on the dishes included peanuts, fried onions and we mixed some lime juice just for kicks. They also had a Pad Thai version of the ramen. The meals were like doses of good health in a bowl. Do try the Pork Ramen and the Pad Thai that we had with chicken. Among the vegetarian variety, Tofu Ramen was really wholesome.

We endorse this festival as a great option for people who want to shun the oily spicy route and yet eat out. The piping hot bowls are just what the doctor ordered this season. While the festival is over, the chef assured us that they could cook up some ramen on special request. That said, do have some time on hand since Wok Tok was a tad slow in service for dishes that had ingredients were mostly prepared ahead. But then it was worth the wait.

Needless to say, Ramen Festival at The Grand felt good.
