Rhythms Of The World by The Capital City Minstrels

Being mesmerized by Capital City Minstrels is not new to us. We have been watching their performances, off and on, for the last couple of years and they seem to be getting better and better. Their performances are always well rehearsed and ooze perfection. But this time, by adding some fun element to it (dances / other body movements / audience interaction), they took it up to a new level.

A mélange of songs in various languages of the world, with the dominant influence of African music, the choir presented something entirely new to the Delhi audience.

First and foremost , they let their music speak for themselves rather than going into the background/ heritage of the choir. From the first performance “Adiemus” to the last number, Shakira’s “Wakka Wakka”, they had the audience at the edge of their seats, swaying their bodies, almost in ecstasy. The renditions included the popular “Jay Ho” from the film “Slumdog Millionaire”.  Although we thought that this was their weakest number, it struck a chord with the audience.

We did not realize how the hour passed by until the choir members, in their colourful costumes were taking a bow. This was followed by an encore – “Wakka Wakka”. And that was that, we were back on the Delhi roads, struggling with the Akhsay Tritiya traffic.
