Rishi Kapoor passes away

During the difficult times of coronavirus lockdown in India, another piece of news that shook the country was the sudden demise of Rishi Kapoor, the famous Bollywood actor from the Kapoor clan. Rishi Kapoor’s death saddens us. Starting from “Mera Naam Joker” he was an entertainer and the performer in him lived with him throughout his film journey.

Rishi Kapoor on his second innings in Hindi Cinema

We were privileged to attend Rishi Kapoor Retrospective which was part of the Jagran Film Festival 2017. He attended the inaugural ceremony at Sirifort Auditorium in Delhi. It is not uncommon for stars of the previous generation to say good things about the cinema of their times and completely look down upon the films of this generation. Rishi Kapoor was an exception. During his inaugural address, Rishi Kapoor said that the audience today was way more discerning. So it was difficult for the present generation of actors to impress the audience. In fact, in his second innings, Rishi Kapoor displayed the versatility of his acting skills in films like Kapoor and Sons, Mulk, Student of the year, 102 Not Out, all made in recent years. The comedian in him did what he was good at – entertain. During the event, Rishi Kapoor also launched the book “Talkies – Cinema Ka Safar” about Indian Cinema written by Mayank Shekhar of the Jagran Film Festival. Bollywood actor Divya Dutta was also a part of the event.

Rishi Kapoor on social media

In the last couple of years, Rishi Kapoor was suffering from the disease leukemia and spent long periods abroad for treatment. Yet, he would routinely post updates and pictures on social media to engage his followers back home. That is the spirit of a real performer who perhaps believes that no matter what happens, the show must go in.

A true star, Rishi Kapoor is now part of the bigger galaxy and this is our humble tribute.

That’s so true. He is a great person, who being a part of the Kapoor khandan, was brave enough to say he wasn’t an actor material.
