The adventure bug has bitten many of us at some point in our life. We have trekked, jumped bungee, canoed in rough waters or embarked on wildlife safaris. But most of us have a regimented existence and there is just so much we can do.
But Mother Nature is completely unconcerned of mundane. She is always up to amazing stuff indifferent to the fact if anyone is watching. Such phenomena, till some years back, were completely oblivious to mankind. But wildlife filming changed the scene and we can never have enough of nature’s wonders. Sony BBC Earth has been at it for some years now.
A series based on Nature and its amazing flora fauna was telecast some years back under the name Planet Earth. Exciting news is that, this program, one of the highest rated TV series is back in its second season as Planet Earth II. It is a spectacular expedition through 40 countries, filmed over 2089 days with 117 shooting trips! Set to a beautiful music score by Hans Zimmer and narrated by the Godfather of Natural History – Sir David Attenborough, the viewers are taken to the most inaccessible places of the natural world – from islands, mountains jungles, deserts, grasslands, even cities, through state-of-the-art technology. In fact, the series features India and its diverse terrain and wildlife prominently in several episodes.
Having multiple international awards in its kitty, the series has recently won the Creative Arts Emmy Awards for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.
Sony BBC Earth has partnered with one of the largest multiplexes in the country, INOX, for the first-ever theatrical screening of the series. We received a special invite to preview the screening of their first episode “Islands” over sandwiches popcorn and cola (we love our movie refreshments any day). Our jaws dropped at the rare footage of breathtaking islands from across the globe, landmasses made of erupting lava, cute love stories of the sloth bear or the family life of penguins. It is not every day that you get to see 1.5 million penguins in full form on the big screen. But what makes heads turn is danger. It is no wonder that the iconic snake versus iguana chase sequence won the ‘Best TV moment of the year’ award at the 2017 BAFTA awards. It was an hour long totally edge of the seat experience and the whole audi sat with baited breath. An unimaginable exposure, we could not have thought of such wonders and are impatient to catch the complete series.
Planet Earth II will premiere in India on Sony BBC Earth on Monday, 18th September and would run from Monday to Friday at 9:00PM.
