Web series were the hottest things to watch in recent times. Almost everybody was hooked to their favourites. Kaali on ZEE5 in the year 2018 had a loyal set of viewers who would swear by this internet series. It was in the backdrop of one of our favourite cities in India – Kolkata. Given the popularity of this web series, ZEE5 has come up with a second season – Kaali Season 2.

All this was hearsay. To confess, we had not watched either of the series. Not that we did not intend. However, blogging, travel and concurrently pursuing our vocations did not leave us much time for such luxuries as watching movies or serials over internet.
Until the current spate of staying at home starting doing the rounds, we were barely indoors. But now that we are leading virtually isolated lives, and are avoiding travel, events, restaurants or public gatherings, we have way more time on hand. We are now trying to catch up many books, television programs or internet series that have been on our bucket list.
In this process we looked up Kaali – Season 1. Seeing the talented Bengali actress Paoli Daam as the lead, the Kolkattan between us got hooked very easily. The thriller model storyline engaged the other.
Kaali – the Dark Goddess, Divine Mother, who saves her devotees and does not hesitate to slay in the process – was perhaps the philosophy behind the series. In fact, it was about a single mother desperately trying to save her son and she only had 12 hours! In this process we got to see the invisible underbelly of our otherwise familiar city Kolkata. We watched the first episode, and then the second, and then the third and then during the last couple of days, we watched all the episodes on air. There is a term for that perhaps – “binge watching”! That is exactly what we did with Kaali. It was awesome and quite edge of the seat experience. Paoli Daam was so cut out for the role; she seemed to be living the character of the feisty mother. The veteran theatre cum television artist Santilal Mukherjee, in the role of the police officer was noteworthy. His understated acting shone through the episodes.

Kaali Season 2 trailer also features Paoli Daam as the lead character. She is back to protect her unwell son and in this process fights the dark side and the mafia raj of Kolkata. We get to see a different Kolkata here – one which is beyond Howrah Bridge or Durga Puja. The dark shades of the clipping – with predominance of red – are like a premonition. It cannot but attract any viewer who loves a good thriller story. Actor Rahul Banerjee, who was like a soothing presence in Season 1, also features in Season 2 perhaps in a similar role. New characters that were not present in Season 1 have been introduced in Season 2 to make the going even more engaging. We loved Chandan Roy Sanyal in many Bollywood movies and he is part of Season 2. Also, in contrast to Season 1, perhaps noting the popularity, it seems from the trailer that Season 2 is to be aired in both languages – Bangla and Hindi. This must be a relief to the fans of Kaali Season 1 who might have slightly struggled with the language.
Kaali Season 2 is going to release on ZEE5 next Friday, 27th March, 2020. In somewhat dormant times around us, this is excitement. We eagerly wait for March 27 to see what new twists Kaali Season 2 has for us.

This one really sounds so good.
It looks like something interesting. Hopefully I get the chance to go have a look.
I didn’t hear about this movie platform before. The series sounds interesting, not very often you have females in lead roles.
We love the leading lady Paoli.
We still have about 20days in lockdown, best we do at home is binge watch and chill and this is what we have to do for 3 weeks. So definitely taking the suggestion and gonna watch this.
Let us know how did you like it..
