There’s something about a sunset that just makes us feel good. Maybe it’s the warm colours, or the way the light casts a golden glow over everything. Whatever the reason, there’s no denying that sunsets are one of nature’s most beautiful displays. And luckily for us, there are plenty of amazing places around the world to watch them. Here are just a few of our favourites.

Delhi, India
Of course, we had to mention Delhi. As the sun sets over Delhi, the sky turns a beautiful hue of orange and pink. If you want to really experience it, head to Lodhi Gardens and enjoy the view from one of the many monuments scattered throughout the park. One of our favourites is Humayun’s Tomb; not only is it an incredible piece of architecture, but it also offers up some great photo opportunities. Trust us, this is one sunset you won’t want to miss. Another place to capture beautiful sunset is at Kartavya Path earstwhile Rajpath at India Gate.
Cairo, Egypt
There’s something magical about watching the sun dip below the pyramids – Egypt has more than 144 of them! as they turn a golden colour in the setting sun. If you’re in Cairo, head to Giza and find a spot on one of the Great Pyramids’ platforms – you’ll have a front row seat to one of nature’s most incredible shows. Just make sure to get there early so you can snag a good spot.
Santorini, Greece
There’s no place quite like Santorini when it comes to watching sunsets. Located in the Aegean Sea, this Greek island is famous for its stunning cliffside towns and incredible views. If you’re in Santorini when sunset rolls around, make your way to Oia – a small town located on the island’s northern tip. Grab a drink or a bite to eat at one of the many cafes and restaurants lining the streets, then find a spot with a view and watch as the sky turns from blue to orange to deep red.
New York City, USA
You might not think of New York City as being a romantic destination, but there’s no denying that it’s one of the best places in the world to watch sunsets. As the sun sets over Manhattan, head to one of the many rooftop bars or restaurants for a cocktail and front row seat to one of nature’s most spectacular displays. If you want to avoid the crowds and the high prices, head to Brooklyn Bridge Park instead. Here, you’ll get unbeatable views of Lower Manhattan and the East River as the sun sets behind them.
Victoria Falls, Zambia/Zimbabwe
If you’re looking for somewhere truly unique to watch the sunset, look no further than Victoria Falls – the largest waterfall in Africa. Situated on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, this natural wonder is an incredible sight at any time of day. But there’s something special about watching as sunlight cascades down over the falls just as night begins to fall. For added romance (and an unbeatable view), book a table at The Lookout Café – a restaurant situated right on the edge of Victoria Falls National Park with panoramic views of both the falls and the spectacular African sunset beyond them.
Seville, Spain
Seville is one of Spain’s most beautiful cities, and its sunsets are something special. The best place to watch the sunset is from the top of Giralda, the city’s ancient bell tower. From here, you’ll have a panoramic view of Seville as the sun sinks behind the buildings and casts a golden glow over the rooftops. If you’re lucky, you might even see a flamenco dancer or two performing in the square below. As the sky turns from blue to orange to red, you’ll understand why watching the sunset in Seville is an experience not to be missed.
Sabah, Malaysia
Tanjung Aru beach at Sabah is famous for being home to one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. The first look of the beach is jaw-dropping for the first-time visitor at least. The water is a beautiful shade from the icy blue palette before the sunset that turns into a golden hue as soon as the sun goes down. A lot of locals and tourists chill at the beach. Yet the beach is always clean and the crowd well behaved.
No matter where you are in the world, there’s nothing quite like watching a sunset. And while there are plenty of amazing places right here at home to catch one, sometimes it’s even more special to watch one while you’re on vacation in a far-flung destination.
If you’re planning a trip and sunset-watching is high on your list of priorities, be sure to add one of these incredible locations to your itinerary. Whether you want to soak up the tranquillity of India or experience the magic of Egypt, there’s somewhere out there that’s perfect for you. So go ahead and plan your next sunset-watching adventure.
I 100% agree on Santorini! It’s a lovely place anyway, but add a sunset and it’s perfect!
