You can’t afford to miss this International Theatre Festival in Delhi

It’s that time of the year that we wait with baited breath. Bharat Rang Mahotsav (BRM) – The International Theatre Festival of India is being held from 01- 21 February 2019 at the auditoriums of National School of Drama (NSD) as well as Kamani, Shriram and LTG Auditoriums. It’s a unique opportunity to watch several plays by renowned directors, actors and theatre groups from India and overseas.

Loretta, a play by Sunil Shanbag and a part of Aditya Birla Group’s theatre initiative Aadyam was also staged during NSD’s Bharat Rang Mahotsav. This was a musical with songs in Konkani and English. Musicals are still a rare breed in Indian theater and we were very excited.

Mohe Piya, directed by Prof. Waman Kendre and performed by the group Rangpeeth from Mumbai, was based on Mahabharat during Bharat Rang Mahotsav by National School of Drama. The epics were the theme this year. Consequently we saw many such productions that involved some of the lesser known episodes from the epics.

National School of Drama Repertory Company staged their play Aadha Chand during Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2017. The plot deals with people who work in call centre/BPO sector and is a walk through their boulevard of broken dreams. The play had potential but long duration and a major Bollywood hangover got in the way.

19th Bharat Rang Mahotsav, the annual theatre festival organized by National School of Drama dropped its curtains after a 21 days long histrionic extravaganza. We enjoyed watching a host of beautiful plays and performances in this period. Delhi-Fun-Dos was also invited to attend the closing ceremony and here is our report.
