Venue: Café Public Connection, CP
Date: 11 March, 2016

While seafood is immensely popular world over, the butter chicken loving North India is still opening up to it. Given the new health wave that urban India is experiencing, people are looking for newer ways and diets to stay healthy without compromising on their taste and time. Seafood has always enjoyed a reputation of being low fat and low calorie diet. On the flip side, its expensive and until recently was not available extensively in ready to eat/cook forms in Delhi NCR.

Gadré  is out to make a difference in this area and have recently introduced Japan’s traditional crab snack called Crab Sticks to India. Crab Sticks are made of Surimi (Japanese fish paste made with good parts of fish) and they claim that it tastes like crabs. These are precooked, so one can have Crab Sticks just like that as well as can cook in various ways. We were invited to the launch party at Café Public Connection, Connaught Place, and we got to taste some Crab Stick dishes made by their in-house chef.

Crab Stick on its own tasted slightly sweet and we feel it will go perfectly in a salad, sandwich or sushi. From the cooked dishes, we tried Crab Claws, Cold Coconut Crab Stick Soup and Crab Stick Spring Rolls. The flavour is unique and just like any sea food it’s an acquired taste. We liked the Crab Stick Salad and their Masala Prawns went well with our beer.

Gadré products are available in more than 20 cities across India. In Delhi NCR, Gadré products can be purchased from all major grocery stores like Nature’s Basket and Food Hall etc. One packet of 250 gms Gadre Crabsticks costs INR 150.

Though these products come with recipes on the packaging, one can always try out new recipes from their website at http://gadre.co.in/recipes/list
