Have you ever swayed with a Punjabi number being played around you? You may have done your take on the bhangra or just shaken a leg. But most likely, you moved to the beats in one way or the other.
Traditionally, Punjabi music is known for it beautiful folk renditions. Sometimes soulful but often boisterous, the music brought forth the joi-de-vivre of this race. Singers like Gurdas Mann brought this music out from Punjab and made it popular all over the country. The infectious nature of this art form went viral in the digital era. The folk style metamorphosed to a more urban version what with rap and pop renditions of this music.
Thereafter the inevitable happened. With Bollywood taking a keen interest in this music form, almost every other Hindi film had atleast a Punjabi number – a disc song or a break-up song or the most popular – wedding song. This would then be heard from shaadis to clubs to local salons in India. And abroad. Not only NRIs but foreigners from South East Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Pakistan of course) to the West love dancing to this kind of Bollywood music. Undoubtedly Punjabi pop strikes the right chords and has a language that wefts all through the music universe. No wonder this genre of music is attracting young talents.
Ujjwal is the new kid on the block – a bright new star in the Punjabi pop music horizon. This singer has been lying in waiting for a while and has finally decided to emerge. He has put together an ensemble music production “Swag Beatz“. Ujjwal and Swag Beatz Production have come up with a music video aptly named “WAIT“. The piece is scheduled to be released on 30th September, 2017.
The new age music set to Punjabi lyrics has oodles of mass appeal. While it has some foot tapping moments that work well with youngsters while the lyrics and the theme would appeal to all.
The music video is shot in Manesar and is slightly flirtatious, naughty and youthful. The video has a definite story line that involves a cute dog as well. Are we not already dying to watch the music video.
Although there is still a while for the video release, Ujjwal has recently taken out a teaser and that is available on YouTube.
Ujjwal is “ujjwal” and we detect an unmistakable freshness in his voice and style. It is a cool approach to Punjabi pop and we decided to feature him on Delhi-Fun-Dos for the unmistaken Delhi connect. Do check Ujjwal’s production out, it is a fun-do indeed.
