Southy – Simple South Indian food in South Delhi
Southy, a South Indian quick service food joint has branches all over Delhi NCR. They have a smallish outlet beside PVR Saket. We had an early dinner before watching our movie. The dinner was decent and all in all took just 30 minutes.
Nil Battey Sannata–What went wrong with a right film?
The trailer of Nil Battey Sannata was encouraging and we were looking forward to watching this film. Given that this was a story without romance / action / typical song-dance sequences, we were not confident that it would run very long at cinemas. So, we watched it soon after its release in a 30% occupied auditorium in Gurgaon. Actually, that’s not so bad. Even if some audience turn up for experimental films, the going is good.
Thai Food in Delhi – J W Marriot, Aerocity
Thai cuisine is a combination of flavours, colors, aroma and texture. While Thai food can get spicy, the heat is very different and milder than Indian food. Given the abundance of raw / fresh ingredients in this cuisine, Thai food is easy to digest and is very suitable for the ongoing crazy days of super high temperature. J W Marriot at Aerocity near the airport is holding a Bangkok Food Festival. We visited this event last weekend to taste some Thai food.
Move over hotels – its Homestay in Himachal
Homestays are popular as a more affordable lodging option to the traveler all over the world. Plus it gives a more intimate local experience. It is yet to pickup in India though as we have our own apprehensions. To check the homestay experience, during a recent weekend trip from Delhi, we decided to skip conventional hotels and government guest houses and booked a homestay at Shoghi, some distance before Shimla from Delhi.

Verbum, The English Dramatics Society, Sri Venkateswara College recently staged the English play – Speed the Plow at LTG Theatre. The play gathered momentum and left the audience with some pertinent questions about life and things. They help in gaining respect for amateur theatre groups who are otherwise not taken seriously. With more exposure, such groups would make a place for themselves.
Zomato meetup at Lutyen’s Cocktail House
Lutyen’s Cocktail House is located at the rather isolated Janpath crossing near CP. With most areas having a different café at adjacent doors, CP – Hauz Khas Village – Rajouri Garden – Sector 29 Gurgaon – there is a lotto competition and chaos. At Lutyen’s Cocktail House, the surrounding area is peaceful and given that this is the only resto-bar here, there is not a lot of commotion. Works well on any evening.

One such place that we used to frequent in our college days is Bille di hatti. We recently revisited this gastronomical experience.

Gauhar, a play based on the life of Gauhar Jaan – India’s first recording artist was recently held at Sirifort and Epicenter. Scripted by Mahesh Dattani and directed by Lilette Dubey, the high point of this production was the live singing by Rajshwari and Zilla Khan of yesteryears Hindustani music.

The Jungle Book – Nostalgia on celluloid
The film world has been waiting with much anticipation for the release of the movie “The Jungle Book”. Directed by Jon Favreau, this version deviates from the earlier animated film by Walt Disney in that this uses three dimensional CG technology. It has been released in English and Hindi in India and has had a whopping opening. It is therefore no surprise that there were way more adults than children when we watched this movie recently.
