Natural Ice Cream, the popular Bombay chain has opened a new outlet in West Delhi at Rajouri Garden. Their ice creams contain real fruits in a milk base. They do not add artificial flavours and the taste of the ice creams is mild and refreshing. They have other outlets in CP and GK.
High Street Café is located in a cluster of restaurants off Rajouri Garden. They serve what we could call desi Continental food. We got a table without reservation even on a Friday evening. So if you are obvious choices are not available, you may try this.
bohème is a continental resto-bar at D Blk Market, Vasant Vihar. They serve simple but interesting food and the décor is soothing. However, it is high up on the second floor without a lift. So for the steep three storey climb – fitness is a prerequisite!
The Burger Club is a fast food joint not far from Rajouri Garden Metro Station. The burgers that they serve are tasty and, though the recipe is from New Zealand, have a mild Indian twist. This place is a must try for burger buffs. In fact, we had Banoffee pie for desert and fell in love with that as well.
Chai point is a tea chain that has an outlet at DLF Cyberhub. Given the tasty tea and snacks, chilled out ambiance and reasonable prices, this is a must do for tea folks as well as anyone who is bored of Coffee Shops. We must add that this seems to be the only tea cafe at Cyberhub.
Indian Grill Room on Golf Course Road, Gurgaon offers Indian / Mughlai buffet style dinners of unlimited helpings of kebabs – main course – dessert pattern. They serve al carte as well and the fare is very decent. But what we love about the place is the outdoor seating. The terrace has been transformed into a dream setting with pools, plants, sprinklers and ground lighting. Far above the hustle bustle of Gurgaon, we recommend this place for a romance plus food combo experience.
Tea is catching up as the go-to drink for many in Delhi what with its health benefits and reasonable prices,. Consequently tea cafes in Delhi are seeing a steadily increasing flow of patrons. T’Pot Café in Malviya Nagar is a tea joint that is about two years old. They have an impressive range of tea starting from our very own masala chai to the exotic white tea – oolong tea et al. They also serve a variety of tea snacks, (vegetarian well as non-vegetarian) meal items and coffee. Apart from the brew, one may buy tea leaves from their outlet or online store.
Hinglish in Pacific Mall, near Subhash Nagar Metro Station is a restaurant that serves a combo of Indian and continental cuisine. We were great fans of this place but our last visit has disappointed us big time. Drinks – food – service – ambiance – attitude – every element was a let down. Extremely saddening.
Mediumwelldone is a resto bar in Gurgaon. Claiming to serve authentic American steak, they disappointed us with their overdose of spices in every dish (soup-starter-main course) that we ordered. The décor is nice and the place is quiet. A mediocre experience all in all.
The foodies of Delhi (or outside) routinely flock Old Delhi (Jama Masjid area) during Ramzan to taste Mughlai food. Karim’s perhaps is the most popular joint in this league. However, there are a plethora of other eateries. In addition to Mughlai food, a variety of local breads with cream, jelly and coconut stuffing; sewaiyan; desserts such as Shahi Tukra and Anarasa and interestingly brewed milk tea with cream topping are must trys.
Nando’s is a causal dining international restaurant chain known for their chicken preparations in peri peri sauce. They have a few restaurants in NCR and we tried the Cyberhub outlet. Thoroughly satisfied, we strongly recommend this place to non-vegetarians who are willing to explore beyond butter chicken.
NDTV Goodtimes is introducing a new show – My Yellow Table. This is a cookery show about Indian food with a twist. The channel held a launch party at the Imperfecto Pub, Hauz Khas Village where the show host, celebrity chef Kunal Kapoor introduced the TV program and did some demo cooking.
Sharbat Mela is a cool and very apt festival in Scorching Delhi Summer. A lot of small and big scale manufacturers of Sharbat, Kulfi and Shake mixes exhibit here and provide samplers for people to taste and buy. It’s a cool and fun way to beat the heat.
Viva-O-Viva at Goa Niwas (Chanakyapuri) offers a predominantly non-vegetarian Goan menu. It you are a seafood buff this place is worth a shot for its simplicity and value for money.
Sakae Sushi at Ambiance Mall, Vasant Kunj serves Sushis and many other Japanese starters, main course, drinks and dessert. If you are hunting for Japanese restaurants in NCR, this is a decent choice for its variety, peaceful ambiance and decent service.
