Nando’s is synonymous to Peri Peri chicken world over. Peri Peri is a well known chilli from South Africa and Nando’s has been known to introduce the Peri Peri sauce based food to mainstream restaurant dining.

Despite their huge promotion after launching outlets in Delhi NCR, we stayed away from Nando’s just for one reason – we are not very fond of spicy food. We Delhiwallas get our dose of spicy food in form of street food. When we dine out in a restaurant we do not expect to eat mouth burning food. Nevertheless on a recent visit to very swanky DLF Cyberhub mall, Gurgaon we finally gave in and dined at Nando’s.

We were pleasantly surprised to see that for all dishes one can choose the degree of heat: extra hot / hot / mild and for diners like us lemon and herb. Still slightly skeptical about how spicy is their lowest spice level we ordered their signature Peri Peri chicken and Moroccon Butternut and Grilled Pepper in pita pockets.

Peri Peri chicken was an absolute delight. A really really tasty chunk of grilled chicken in very mild herb based coating made us hum Rihanna’s number “Where have you been all my la aa aa life….”. The chicken was fresh, felt healthy and was aptly filling.

The pita pockets were stuffed with roasted chicken and grilled bell peppers and were served with two sides that we chose from a few options provided in the menu. Both the sides – potato wedges and coleslaw were delectable. Pita pockets felt a lot for us but the cocktail Rosa Fresca (pomegranate juice – mint syrup – Sprite) helped us to wash it down. The drink was somewhat high on sweetness but was nice (and pretty) and went well with our food.

The ambiance is cool and the staff courteous. We went for an early dinner so getting a table wasn’t any struggle. By the time we were done it was choc-a-bloc with diners.

All said and done, the big winner is the taste and quality of their Peri Peri chicken. Truth be told, our mouths are still watering while writing this review.
