Ages back, we were fortunate to witness Birju Maharaj dance to Vidushi Girija Devi’s songs. That was a lifetime’s experience. Girija Devi has since passed into the grandest annals of Hindustani Classical music. But we did not want to miss Birju Maharaj’s rare performance at any cost.

Capital City Minstrels are a Delhi based choir group who are bound by love for choral music. They are currently holding their annual summer concerts. We watched them last Sunday at India Habitat Centre where they sang to a full house. Delhi had voted that morning amidst a lot of political cacophony. No wonder, the summer concert that evening provided the much needed solace to a bunch of frenzied nerves.

The Sounds From The Desert – a musical evening comprising folk traditions of Rajasthan was held at Siri Fort Auditorium last Friday evening. While Kutle Khan, Coke Studio Fame, was the star performer, the whole band of musicians on stage was extremely instrumental (literally so) in making the program a melody travel to Rajasthan. The show was organized by Showcase Events in association with Hindustan Times.
