DAKSHA: Crafting Voices Brings the Living Traditions of Eastern India to Delhi
Delhi’s cultural calendar gets a handcrafted touch this June with DAKSHA: Crafting Voices, a curated exhibition that explores the evolving craft traditions of Eastern India through collaborations between artisans and contemporary designers. Hosted at The Kunj in Vasant Kunj, the exhibition looks at how traditional craft practices can continue to adapt and find relevance in modern spaces while staying rooted in heritage.
Organised in collaboration with the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, the exhibition highlights the role of artisans not just as makers, but as creative collaborators and custodians of knowledge. Through experimentation and co-creation, DAKSHA reimagines craft as a living and evolving contemporary practice.
The exhibition brings together a diverse range of crafts from Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal. Visitors will get to explore Kashi Ghash and bamboo craft, Seraikela Chhau masks, Dhokra metal craft, Sabai craft, Kantha embroidery, Patachitra, wooden masks, and terracotta works presented through a contemporary lens.
Alongside the exhibition, DAKSHA will also feature workshops, demonstrations, talks, performances, and round table discussions involving artists, architects, designers, researchers, and cultural practitioners. Whether you are interested in handmade traditions, contemporary design, or India’s rich craft heritage, this promises to be an engaging cultural experience.
