NSD Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2026

The National School of Drama (NSD) presents the 25th edition of Bharat Rang Mahotsav (BRM) 2026, the world’s largest international theatre festival, in its most ambitious and inclusive format yet. Celebrating 25 years of theatrical excellence, BRM 2026 expands across India and the world, bringing together an extraordinary range of performances, languages, cultures, and communities.
This landmark edition will feature 277 Indian productions, including 136 curated plays, along with 12 international productions, staged across 40 locations nationwide. In a first-of-its-kind global outreach, the festival will also host one participating country from each of the seven continents, reinforcing India’s position as a global hub for theatre and performing arts.

With performances in 228 languages and dialects, Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2026 becomes the world’s most linguistically diverse theatre festival. Alongside major Indian languages, this year sees the inclusion of Maithili, Bhojpuri, Tulu, Urdu, Sanskrit, Tai Khamti, Nyishi, and several tribal and endangered languages, reflecting NSD’s commitment to cultural representation and inclusivity.
The festival’s national footprint expands further with new host locations such as Ladakh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu, Aizawl, Tura, Nagaon, Mandi, and Rohtak, taking theatre to regions with limited access to live performances.
BRM 2026 curates a rich mix of classical, folk, contemporary, musical, physical, and experimental theatre. Signature segments include Adirang Mahotsav, Jashne Bachpan, Bal Sangam, Poorvottar Natya Samaroh, Puppet Theatre Festival, Dance Drama Festival, Classical Sanskrit Drama Festival, and the Micro Drama Festival. For the first time, theatre productions by transgender communities, sex workers, senior citizens, and other underrepresented groups will be showcased on a national platform.

The festival also pays tribute to freedom fighters, social reformers, and legendary theatre personalities, while commemorating figures such as Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Lok Mata Ahilya Bai, and Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Special seminars, including one dedicated to Ebrahim Alkazi, along with masterclasses, workshops, and street theatre performances, will further enrich the festival experience.
A key highlight is the Theatre Bazaar, encouraging new playwrights and original writing, with selected works to be awarded and published. Under the Shruti initiative, 17 new theatre-related books will be launched. Notably, 33 productions directed by women underline the festival’s focus on gender representation in Indian theatre.
Beyond performances, Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2026 offers visitors a holistic cultural experience with folk art showcases, street performances, traditional food counters, and handicraft displays, making it a true celebration of India’s living cultural heritage.
