The Many Lives of Textiles
The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), in collaboration with the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC), presents the August edition of the Sanskriti Museum Lecture Series with a talk by textile professional, academic, researcher and curator Sareekah Agarwaal.
Titled The Many Lives of Textiles: Stories, Memories & Meanings, the lecture will explore textiles as carriers of history, memory, identity and cultural narratives.
Drawing from her work in textile research, documentation, archiving, curation and preservation, Sareekah Agarwaal will look at how a textile acquires new stories and meanings as it moves through different hands, generations and contexts. The conversation will also reflect on the importance of preserving not just the material object but also the oral histories and memories associated with it.
