The Ramayana: Internationally Acclaimed Theatre
The Ramayana: Internationally Acclaimed Theatre Play at Akshara Theatre, Delhi
Experience the timeless story of Lord Rama and Sita through The Ramayana, the internationally acclaimed play presented by Akshara Theatre on 18 October 2026 in New Delhi. Originally written by Gopal Sharman and performed by Jalabala Vaidya as a celebrated one-woman production, the play travelled from Broadway and London’s West End to the United Nations and 35 Indian cities. It later evolved into a powerful multi-actor production while retaining the dramatic intensity and poetic depth of the original work.
The current production features the talented young artists of the Akshara Theatre Repertory, trained by Gopal Sharman and Jalabala Vaidya, and directed by Anasuya Vaidya. Through its sensitive portrayal of Rama and Sita, the play explores the reverence, complexity and enduring mystery of the epic. It offers audiences an opportunity to experience the Ramayana through theatre, storytelling and performance in English.
