SwagFest – The grand finale of Delhi NCR events in 2017

Dec 29, 2017 | Live Performances, Music

Punjabi joi-de-vivre is not limited to singing and dancing on Lohri and Baisakhi and is definitely more than boisterous big fat Punjabi weddings. It comes from being the state of agriculture and prosperity and permeates the everyday life of North Indians. No wonder every other Bollywood movie has at least one Punjabi song – the song that actually gets people to theatres and is played at weddings, school functions, and in YouTube videos. Celebrating this vibe of Punjabi culture was another version of the Swag Fest. Organised by Red FM and sponsored by a host of big companies, the highlight this year was Diljit Dosanjh. For people who are not into Punjabi pop music, Diljit is the actor who made waves through the movie “Udta Punjab” not by being a sidekick to Shahid Kapoor but by having a strong parallel role in this star-studded film.

Dosanjh has been churning out good music way before Udta Punjab happened and continues to do so along with his newfound acting career. SwagFest 2017 was a live performance by Diljit Dosanjh of mostly his hit songs along with a handful of old classics by Gurdas Mann and Punjabi Folk songs. The event started with Red FM RJsDIlli ka vella Rocky, Henna, Swati, and Raunak a-k-a Bauva / Babua along with others entertaining the audience with their jokes and gigs.

The huge crowd gathered at Leisure Valley Gurgaon to listen to their favorite Punjabi star who appeared at around 8 on the stage and started with some of these lesser-known songs and then moved to smash hits like “Do you know“, “Panj Taara“, “Veerwaar” and “Patiyala Peg“. The sad song “Ik Kudi” from Udta Punjab broke the monotony of happy and foot-tapping songs but did not bring the tempo of the musical evening down. The rendition of chart-topper “Laembadgini” had everybody singing and moving along with Dosanjh.

In between his songs, Dosanjh responded to gifts, chocolates, T-shirts, and “I Love You”s thrown at him by crazy fans. The event lasted for almost two hours and wound up sharp at 10. Diljit Dosanjh bid goodbye by bowing down to the public who had gathered to enjoy the Swag Fest. For us Swag Fest was a great happy goodbye to 2017 and we look forward to attending and reviewing such fun-filled and fun-do events in 2018 and many years to come.
