We are Delhi-Fun-Dos and what we love best is to explore Delhi, enjoy Delhi, and write about it here. And trust us, we are never at a loss for amazing opportunities. Just so much keeps happening in Delhi; we are often at a loss while picking and choosing one event over another. The last few days have been like that.

Lodhi Art Festival

In fact, what a weekend it was! We attended the Lodhi Festival organised by the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) and Start India. This was a 2-day extravaganza that brought together various art forms under one roof – well, actually no roof as it was al fresco at the beautiful Lodhi Art District.

What is it about?

They set up the zone between Blocks C and D like an art Mela with colourful buntings and lights. Vibrant and festive; huge puppets roamed around in bright attire. Some acrobats were performing stunts on a stage on the side. They later gave way to a duo who enthralled the audience with their beatboxing skills. On another side, there was a sand artist who created a lifelike portrait using multi-colored sand.

Not just Art

In between, there were stalls selling chuski, momos, gol gappe, ram laddoo, and sweet corn for Delhi foodies. We were happy to see street food instead of famous international fast-food stalls. The youngsters had a gala time relishing these Indian snacks. Way to go KNMA.

Saved the best for last

The showstopper performance was by the Manganiyaars, the folk musicians from Rajasthan. They left the Delhi people speechless with their mind-boggling performance that consisted of 30-plus musicians creating magic on the stage. The audience was dancing and swaying away with this performance. Not only was it pleasing to the ears, but visually stunning as well. The background set design was of an absolutely international standard.

We missed the performance of Karsh Kale on day one. Nevertheless, we were very happy that we managed to attend on day two and witnessed the final performance. This was the first edition of the Lodhi Festival, and what a smashing event it was! We look forward to more cultural events organised by the Kiran Nadar Museum of Arts.

All the good things in life are always free

There is a saying that good things in life don’t come for free. We beg to differ. The utterly enjoyable Lodhi Festival was a free event that was open to all. It was a unique melange of diverse arts, crafts, skills, and food all fused to make a complete whole. Special mention – the security arrangements by the team. The attention to detail was impressive.

Overall, it was a great experience with something of interest to everybody. If you are either a resident or a visitor in Delhi NCR, we highly recommend attending such events. It’s a great way to explore different art forms, try out Delhi’s street food, and have a great time with family and friends.

Nearest Metro Station to Lodhi Art District

Lodhi Art District is located near Lodhi Road in South Delhi. The nearest metro station to Lodhi Art District is Jorbagh on Yellow Line. You can walk from here or take a cycle rickshaw or an auto rickshaw. Alternatively, any radio taxi or auto rickshaw would take you there. If you wish to drive, there is sufficient roadside parking space in this area.

Places of interest at Lodhi Art District

With cool cafes, boutiques, India Habitat Centre and India International Centre, and Lodhi Gardens in the vicinity, Lodhi Art District has so much more to offer. It is an all-season hangout zone in South Delhi that you would definitely enjoy.
