Love is in the air and theatre in Delhi has a new entrant – Raunaq & Jassi. Director Feroz Abbas Khan has made his rendition of Shakespeare’s love ballad Romeo and Juliet. Placing the story in Punjab, he has given the plot a local flavour starting from the name.

14th Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META), 2019 concluded with a grand awards night. Kamani Auditorium was full to the brim with META team, META jury, actors and theatre lovers to watch this annual extravaganza. The event had a star studded setting what with luminaries from the field of theatre coming together for the love of the art. Ila Arun, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Sushma Seth, Swaroopa Ghosh and many other thespians were on the Red Carpet for the META finale.
Bhagi Hui Ladkiyan – A Play, A Statement
Mahindra Excellence Theatre Festival 2019 (META) is on in full swing and we are happy to have collaborated in this fantastic event. META is a competition and we had watched one of contenders, “Bhagi Hui Ladkiyan” at American Centre a while back. This play is directed by Dhwani Vij and is produced by Aagaz Theatre Trust, New Delhi. This piece definitely calls for a review.

Bharat Rang Mahotsav (BRM) – The International Theatre Festival of India is being held from 01- 21 February 2019 at the auditoriums of National School of Drama (NSD) as well as Kamani, Shriram and LTG Auditoriums. It’s a unique opportunity to watch several plays by renowned directors, actors and theatre groups from India and overseas.
Queen of Rock – Musical play for a cause
While recently released Bohemian Rhapsody is still running in cinema halls, we watched a musical play based on the band Queen and its famous lead singer with Indian roots, Freddie Mercury. The musical play was organised to spread awareness on cervical cancer.
Elephant in the Room – Ganesha as we don’t know him – META 2017
Mahendra Excellence Theatre Awards (META) this year had a host of mind-numbing beautiful plays and the jury would have had a very tough time in selecting the winners. A particularly interesting piece was ‘Elephant in the Room’ a soliloquy created out of an interesting topic. It is a quirky twist to the familiar story of Ganesha’s losing his head due to his father’s wrath and having an elephant head attached instead!
Outcaste – META plays 2017
OUTCASTE was a unique play in Hindi by Randhir Kumar in this year’s META. It represented a traditional genre of Indian theatre that was activist in nature. It involved a huge number of artists who ruled the stage with clockwork precision.
Mohe Piya – Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2017
Mohe Piya, directed by Prof. Waman Kendre and performed by the group Rangpeeth from Mumbai, was based on Mahabharat during Bharat Rang Mahotsav by National School of Drama. The epics were the theme this year. Consequently we saw many such productions that involved some of the lesser known episodes from the epics.
Aadha Chand – Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2017
National School of Drama Repertory Company staged their play Aadha Chand during Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2017. The plot deals with people who work in call centre/BPO sector and is a walk through their boulevard of broken dreams. The play had potential but long duration and a major Bollywood hangover got in the way.
Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2017 closes curtains
19th Bharat Rang Mahotsav, the annual theatre festival organized by National School of Drama dropped its curtains after a 21 days long histrionic extravaganza. We enjoyed watching a host of beautiful plays and performances in this period. Delhi-Fun-Dos was also invited to attend the closing ceremony and here is our report.
A Stranger Guest – Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2017
Can you ever be prepared to let someone dear go. The helplessness of a family that is going to loose one of their members is portrayed in a beautiful and subtle way in Israeli play – A Stranger Guest. A Stranger Guest is part of the ongoing Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2017 organised by NSD.

Bharat Rang Mahotsav, the largest theatre festival is being held from 1st to 21st Feb 2017. National School of Drama invited us to the press conference that was addressed by Professor Waman Kendre of NSD. We can’t wait to attend this theatre extravaganza.
