Bishnupur – The Temple City of West Bengal
Bishnupur located in the district Bankura of West Bengal is home to terracotta architecture built by the rulers of the Malla dynasty. The humble kulcha has glammed up at KOOLCHAS, Gurgaon. They have two branches as of now – one in Sushant Lok and the other in the Sector 14 market. ‘Night, Mother, a play directed by Vamika Sachar, has been adapted from a Pulitzer prizewinning drama by Marsha Norman. It deals with some difficult issues that we face, directly or vicariously. Kathak Maestro Birju Maharaj Performs in Delhi
Pandit Birju Maharaj recently performed at India International Centre during the Manodharma Dance Fest as part of ‘Manasa – Art Without Frontiers’, an initiative of noted Odissi exponent Sharon Lowen . Ages back, we were fortunate to witness Birju Maharaj dance to Vidushi Girija Devi’s songs. That was a lifetime’s experience. Girija Devi has since passed into the grandest annals of Hindustani Classical music. But we did not want to miss Birju Maharaj’s rare performance at any cost.
