DAG Presents ‘Faces and Facets: Satyajit Ray in Colour’ in Delhi

DA rare and intimate look at legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray comes alive in Faces and Facets: Satyajit Ray in Colour, an ongoing exhibition at DAG, New Delhi. The exhibition brings together a remarkable collection of colour photographs captured by celebrated photographer Nemai Ghosh, offering audiences a chance to see Ray beyond the iconic black-and-white imagery usually associated with him.

Spread across photographs taken over nearly 25 years, the exhibition captures Ray at work, in conversation, sketching, directing, writing, travelling, and quietly observing the world around him. These images move beyond documentation and instead feel deeply personal—revealing the warmth, atmosphere, and everyday textures of the filmmaker’s creative universe.

Nemai Ghosh first met Ray during the shooting of Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne in 1968, and over time became one of the closest visual chroniclers of the auteur’s life and cinema. The exhibition highlights this artistic relationship through rare colour photographs that showcase not just the filmmaker, but also the moods, spaces, and process behind his films.
