14th Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META), 2019 concluded with a grand awards night. Kamani Auditorium was full to the brim with META team, META jury, actors and theatre lovers to watch this annual extravaganza. The event had a star studded setting what with luminaries from the field of theatre coming together for the love of the art. Ila Arun, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Sushma Seth, Swaroopa Ghosh and many other thespians were on the Red Carpet for the META finale.

Mahindra Excellence Theatre Festival 2019 (META) is on in full swing and we are happy to have collaborated in this fantastic event. META is a competition and we had watched one of contenders, “Bhagi Hui Ladkiyan” at American Centre a while back. Across the Sea – Puppet Play at Theatre Olympics
NSD’s Theatre Olympics is a melange of plays in all possible genres – from comedy to tragedy – from nouveau experiments to traditional nautanki – from song and dance based musicals to non verbal plays. We managed to watch a multitude of styles in this theatre extravaganza this year. “Across the sea”, directed by Anurupa Roy was probably the first puppet play we watched in this festival. Puppets are a great story-telling medium and we welcome the inclusion of this genre in this annual theatre bonanza.

Anand Express – a trip down the memory lane with Aadyam
Aadyam’s presentation this time is Anand Express. The play is based on Keith Gray’s story Ostrich Boys that was later adapted by Karl Miller for stage. The Indian adaption by Adarsh Khurana was recently staged at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi. Directed for Aadyam by Nadir Khan, this is a Rage Productions presentation.
“Saying Yes” – production of Kaivalya Plays
“Saying Yes” is an English play that is adapted from the works of Griselda Gambaro, the Argentinian playwright. Kaivalya Plays recently presented this piece at a rather informal setting at Instituto Cervantes off Connaught Place. It was a late rainy Sunday evening and the surging audience in the basement theatre was heartening assurance of growing interest in theatre in Delhi NCR.
Theatre Olympics in India in 2018
The 8th edition of International Theatre Olympics is scheduled to be held in India during 17 February to 8 April 2018. A spectacular celebration of world theater is going to take place all over the country. We were invited to the press conference organised to announce this gala event and here is a curtain raiser.
