Dharamshala in Himachal has always been a favourite destination for us, a place we often find ourselves drawn back to time and again. Whether it’s the cool mountain air, the serene landscapes, or the vibrant cultural heritage, there’s something about Dharamshala that keeps calling us back. On our latest trip, we decided to try something new: the Dharamshala Ropeway, also known as the Dharamsala Skyway. This new experience added a fresh twist to our usual visit, offering us a unique perspective of this beautiful region.

The Dharamshala Skyway: A Modern Marvel

McLeodganj is unarguably the coolest spot in Dharamshala. We believe McLeodganj is the coolest hill station in Himachal. Not only does it have excellent weather, but also the Dalai Lama Temple and the cool Tibetan culture on the Mall Road make it a very happening zone. If you walk down Mall Road, maybe 5 minutes from the Dalai Lama Temple, you are greeted by a sparkling new building, the entrance to the Dharamshala Skyway.

The Skyway is a 1.8-kilometer ropeway that connects Dharamshala to McLeodganj, two towns that are popular among tourists and locals alike. This ropeway is more than just a means of transportation; it’s a journey in itself. Covering the distance in just 10 minutes, the ropeway offers a swift and scenic passage through the skies. As you ascend, you are treated to a panoramic view of the dense forests below, occasionally punctuated by quaint buildings that seem to be part of the landscape.

One of the most striking aspects of the Dharamshala Skyway is its perfect speed. It’s not too fast, allowing you to soak in the views, yet it’s not so slow that the ride becomes tedious. The balance is just right, making the journey both exciting and relaxing. As you glide over the treetops, you can’t help but feel a sense of wonder at the natural beauty that surrounds you.
